NEC 4550A: No scan but "All tests complete"

Postby Ho-Li » Fri Dec 28, 2007 21:36

Hi at QPxTool,

i still got this problem with Ubuntu "Feisty" and QPxTool 0.6.09 and Ubuntu "Gutsy" with QPxTool 0.6.1.2. Everytime i try to start a DVD PIE/PIF Scan with my NEC 4550A the message is "All tests complete" although no test is done.

Along with the NEC a BenQ 1655 DVD Writer and a PLEXTOR 5254 CD/RW Writer is installed on the system.

The only way to start a PIE/PIF Scan with NEC or BenQ is to use the PIONEER-Commands in the section "media". But the results are definetly wrong and reading speed is to fast.

Hope you can help, because i don't like to start Windows everytime i want to test my DVDs!

Regards: Holger

The problem has changed somehow. Starting qpxtool as root (with sudo as you described above) the PIE/PIF tests with the NEC 4550A now seem to work properly :D :D .

But starting qpxtool from GNOME with "Alt + F2" or starting it as a regular user in a Terminal doesn't work.

Any idea what has to be changed?

some commands are not available in user space. So qpxtool needs the s-bit:
Code: Select all
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 916464 2007-10-22 21:21 /usr/bin/qpxtool
