#1 Support for Sony Drives von tafinho 10.04.2007 02:53

Hi,

Apparently there's not much support for Sony devices, so i kindly request support for them, namely DVD+-RW DW-Q58A

If i can help in any way, i'd like to help.

Have you already tested the Lite-On command set?

When i run QPxTool it simply seg faults after listing the profiles.

You haven't mentioned this before, so how should I know this?

First check if the segfault is relying on the Sony drive: unplug drive, so QPxTool should start.

Plugin the drive again. install strace and ltrace.
strace qpxtool > strace.output
ltrace qpxtool > ltrace.output

send both files to T.Maguin a web.de

OK, email sent.

Apparently, even without the cdrom, qpxtool still crashes, so it may not be related to the device.

- Without cdrom attached, i get a segmentation fault
- With a CD ROM, it also segfaults

Looks to me like a problem of your systems.

Zitat
I'm running a Gentoo with 2.6.13-gentoo-r5 Kernel

I have four boxes with gentoo here running QPxTool without problems.
Have you tried a more recent kernel?
Have you tried revdep-rebuild?

Zitat
** Scaning for MMC compliant devices...
/dev/sr0: SONY DVD+-RW DW-Q58A UDS1
** Scan compleete: 1 device(s) found

Are you using ide-scsi? Or is your drive SCSI? Is there PATA over SATA or something like that?

1. Nop, i don't any issues with this current kernel until now
2. Yes

3. PATA over SATA

It is possible that the issue is in my system, but i don't have any problems with cd recoding software...

Were you able to detect which call caused the seg fault?

What is the IDE/SATA chipset and whi is the manufacturer of your mainboard?
Please install a more recent kernel to get better driver support for your chipset and an easier bug hunting.

Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML Express Processor to DRAM Controller (rev 03)
IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801FBM (ICH6M) SATA Controller (rev 03)

It's a Dell Laptop.

changing the kernel version before my vacations is nearly impossible, is causes some disruption which i can't cope right now.
